QuickBooks Error Code C = 342 signifies crops up when you attempt to open a damaged company file (.qbw) in QuickBooks 2004 or 2005. You have to restart QuickBooks application and try again, preferably with a new data file.
For resolving this error you have to run the Rebuild Data utility in QuickBooks. In QuickBooks 2004 and 2005 release this utility can be run without the company file first being open.
Scan your system for viruses. If you are able to open other data files: rebuild your company data file without opening it. If you continue to receive the error after completing these steps, you have to restore a backup of your company file. In Microsoft® Windows XP users should verify compatibility settings.
The Rebuild Data Utility repairs transaction and list the damage in your company file, but it is limited to damage it is programmed to fix.
Follow the process of QB Rebuild Data Utility under following circumstances:
⏺ When you encounter an error message suggesting you Rebuild your data file.
⏺ Verify Data process ends with a data damage message.
⏺ QuickBooks In Product Help or a knowledge base article suggests you Rebuild your data.
⏺ QuickBooks Support Executive recommends that you run it.
⏺ Forms or reports display incorrectly.
How to Fix the Issue?
Step 1: Run the Rebuild Utility
? Go to file -> Click Utilities -> Rebuild Data.
? Click OK if you receive a prompt to backup your company file.
? Click OK when you get the message Rebuild has completed and proceed with the next step.
Step 2: Run the Verify Utility
? Go to File Menu -> Click Utilities > Verify Data.
? Click OK when you see the message QuickBooks detected no problem with your data. Continue using your company file.
? Verify data process detects issue with your data, you will be prompted to Rebuild Now or View Errors.
? Click Close.
? Continue with the following steps if you are comfortable reviewing the QBWIN.log file. Otherwise, you may contact support for additional help.
⭕ Open the QBWIN.log file.
⭕ When the file opens search to start verify and locate the latest file.
⭕ Find the line that contains the LVL_ERROR, copy and paste to QuickBooks Help.
