Google’s email platform, Gmail, is the preferred option for many scammers. In 2018,
there were 1.5 billion Gmail users worldwide. Google’s security measures fall short
when it comes to preventing unwanted emails in your Gmail inbox. Gmail provides

junk emailers find ways to circumvent the measures and reach your inbox.

This article discusses whether it is possible to block an email address in Gmail. We
also list the step-by-step method on how to block an email address on Gmail.

Can You Block An Email Address On Gmail?

Gmail’s idea of blocking a sender or emailer is to send the selected emailer’s
messages currently in your inbox, and those you will receive in the future to the
‘Spam’ folder.
Users can block an email address from their Gmail settings. Google makes it easy to
block an email from within the message or from Gmail settings. After you block a
specific email, future messages from that sender will not reach your Gmail inbox.

Method #1: How To Block An Email On Gmail Without Opening The

Message?

A user needs to have an active Gmail account to block the specific email address in
Gmail. Below is a systematic process to block an email address on Gmail.

Step #1: Go to your Gmail account

Step #2: Enter your email address and password. For security reasons, Google
advises not to save your email ID and password in your internet browser history.
Instead, write down your login ID and password in your diary.

Step #3: On the next screen, Google asks a user to verify their recovery phone
number and alternate email address in case he/she forgets the password or email ID.
Verify the details and click ‘Confirm.’

Step #4: In the next Gmail screen, the user sees his/her inbox. If you see an email
from an unknown sender, the best way to stay safe is not to open the message
because the message might contain a virus.

Step #5: Right-click on the message. A window should pop up with a list of options
on what to do with that email.

Step #6: Scroll down to the ‘Move to’ option in the list. Another list opens. This list
shows different folders to which the user can send the email.

Step #7: Click on ‘Spam.’ Here, the user selects from 2 options
